A 72-year-old St. Charles man has been charged with sexually assaulting and abusing two children at a Schaumburg home daycare over a four-year span, according to police.

Julio R. Marquez is being held in Cook County Jail on a $3 million bail after appearing in bond court Thursday on single counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child and aggravated criminal sexual abuse. He is scheduled to return to court on June 29.

Schaumburg police opened an investigation in May after a report of a child being sexually assaulted between 2008 and 2012 at a home daycare where Marquez assisted his wife with its operation. Police said Marquez committed sex acts with the child, who is now eight years old, several times during that four-year period. The child told a mandated reporter about the incidents. That person then contacted the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, which advised Schaumburg police.

The subsequent investigation also turned up information of a previous sex abuse allegation from the same time frame at the daycare, located in the 400 block of East Wise Road in Schaumburg, police said. Investigators reopened their look into that case and eventually sought charges alleging a second child had been abused by Marquez.
