DUBLIN — Police have arrested a longtime golf instructor in the Tri-Valley on suspicion of the ongoing sexual assault of a minor, police said Friday.

Kwangson “Sonny” Kim, 52, was arrested Feb. 14 by Dublin police.

He was arrested on suspicion of continued sex abuse of a child and lewd acts with a child under 14, according to inmate court records. He no longer is in custody at Santa Rita Jail.

Dublin Capt. Nate Schmidt said the abuse is alleged to have occurred over a three-year time period, from when the young girl was 12 years old, until her current age of 15.

The girl told a school official about the abuse, who reported it to police and informed her parents, he said.

She is no longer his student.

Kim is a longtime private golf coach in the Tri-Valley, and was head of the Sonny Kim Golf Academy.

On Yelp, reviewers commended Kim as a person they respected and enjoyed being around.

“Mr. Kim is someone who I deeply respect and enjoy being around. He is one of the friendliest people I know and I cannot wait to continue to grow my game with him as my coach,” said one Yelp user.
