Survivors Demand Action on the Child Victims Act

Child Victims Act not in the budget, survivors push for legislative action

Albany lawmakers finalized the 2018-19 budget without the Child Victims Act, legislation that would raise the statute of limitation for survivors of child sex abuse.

In response, a coalition of survivors and advocates issued the follow statement:

“For 12 years Majority Leader Flanagan and Republican Senators have killed the Child Victims Act, choosing abusers and powerful interests over children and safe communities. But we will not be silenced, and we will not be defeated. April is sexual assault awareness month, a perfect time for Leader Flanagan to put the Child Victims Act on the floor and let his members vote their conscience. It’s time for Albany politicians to demonstrate even a fraction of the courage that survivors of child sex abuse show every day and pass the Child Victims Act NOW.”
