Treating Trauma in Your Community

A science-based solution to the root cause of crime, addiction, and homelessness. We treat unresolved trauma directly — breaking the cycle of addiction, incarceration, and recidivism, and reducing the taxpayer burden that comes with it.

Policy Change Doesn’t Have to Wait on Funding

Tell your own state and local representatives to fund ACE-informed prevention and treatment today.

The Problem

Every community pays for untreated trauma

Jails and prisons across the country cycle the same people through the same system, year after year — not because rehabilitation doesn’t work, but because most rehabilitation never reaches the root cause.

$1 : $10

For every dollar corrections spends, the community spends ten more downstream.

High

Recidivism remains high even where significant rehabilitation resources already exist.

Rising

As street drugs grow more dangerous, unresolved trauma and relapse are a matter of life and death.

The Root Cause

Unresolved trauma sits underneath it all

Extensive research shows trauma is a primary driver of criminal justice involvement. When trauma goes untreated, it doesn’t stay contained — it radiates outward into nearly every part of a person’s life.

The Pattern We’re Breaking

Without treatment, the cycle repeats itself

Every release without trauma treatment sets the same pattern back in motion — at growing cost to public safety and the public purse.

↻ Unresolved Trauma

Without treatment, recidivism leads straight back to unresolved trauma — and the cycle begins again.

The Gap

Rehabilitation without trauma treatment is incomplete

Communities already invest real resources in rehabilitation — and that investment matters. But most programs are built around the downstream symptoms of trauma, not the trauma itself.

What’s typically funded

  • Job training & GED programs
  • General addiction counseling
  • Case-by-case social services
  • Post-release check-ins

What’s missing

  • Clinical treatment of the trauma itself
  • A fast, evidence-based therapeutic model
  • Case management paired with therapy, not instead of it
  • Outcomes measured through controlled research
Our Approach

Two evidence-based modalities, working together

Our model pairs a fast, clinically proven trauma therapy with sustained case management — treating the root cause while building the stability people need to make it last.

1

Intensive Trauma Focused Therapy (ITFT)

A safe, evidence-based method for reprocessing trauma and reducing PTSD symptoms — delivered one patient at a time, daily, over about a week.

  • Delivered one-on-one, daily
  • Safe, clinically evidence-based
  • Meaningful relief in about a week
2

Case Management

Case managers provide the stability and relationships that permit continued healing — helping clients access housing, education, and vocational opportunities.

  • Stable housing placement and support
  • GED, higher education, and skills training
  • Job readiness and employment pathways
Speed to Relief

Time to meaningful relief

For a re-entry population facing housing instability, court dates, and immediate survival pressures, a multi-year timeline simply isn’t practical.

Designed, and Ready to Launch

Designed for Monroe County, NY

The Monroe County Jail worked with us to design a program tailored to its population — the first of three phases. That design is complete and a detailed execution plan is ready to go; what’s needed now is funding to move it from plan to practice, with protocols built for adoption anywhere the same dynamics exist.

1

Local Leadership

A county corrections system already investing in recidivism reduction.

2

Added Treatment Layer

ITFT and case management layered onto existing services.

3

Controlled Study

Outcomes measured against a comparison population.

4

Portable Model

Findings and protocols designed for replication elsewhere.

Projected Impact
35–40%

Expected reduction in recidivism among the population that receives both Intensive Trauma Focused Therapy and Case Management.

Fewer Returns

Less repeat contact with jails and courts.

Lower Cost

Reduced downstream taxpayer burden.

Healthier Communities

Fewer families disrupted by incarceration.

Return on Investment

Treating the cause costs less than managing the fallout

Research from the Institute for Justice Research and Development shows that for every dollar corrections spends, the community spends ten dollars more downstream — in courts, emergency services, homelessness response, and repeat incarceration.

$1

Corrections spends — direct treatment & program cost

$10

Community spends without treatment — courts, ER visits, shelters, repeat incarceration

Beyond Monroe County

The same drivers exist in every jurisdiction

Trauma doesn’t stop at a county line. Wherever there is a jail, a shelter, or an emergency room absorbing the cost of untreated trauma, this model applies.

✓Every jail and court system manages the same recidivism cycle
✓Every community absorbs the cost of trauma-driven homelessness
✓Every region is affected by the addiction and overdose crisis
✓Every taxpayer funds the downstream cost of inaction

Call to Action

What we’re asking of policymakers

Program Funding

Invest in treatment — help survivors get back on their feet and reduce the taxpayer burden of unresolved trauma.

Policy Support

Back trauma-informed treatment as a recognized part of the recidivism-reduction toolkit.

Partnership

Connect us with corrections, courts, and behavioral health leadership in your jurisdiction.

A Commitment to Evidence

Support a controlled pilot that lets outcomes — not assumptions — guide expansion.

Break the cycle. Treat the cause.

We’re ready to bring a science-based, evidence-driven approach to your community — and to prove that treating trauma is one of the most effective tools available for reducing crime, addiction, homelessness, and recidivism.
