A former Wheaton College employee pleaded guilty Tuesday to a child pornography possession charge and was sentenced to four years in prison. In a negotiated plea with DuPage County prosecutors, Benjamin Felker, 30, admitted guilt to the felony count and agreed to the four-year term. In return, prosecutors dropped several other counts he was facing.
Following an investigation in September 2016, police executed a search warrant at his residence in the 1000 block of Briarbrook Drive in Wheaton and found illicit videos and images on a computer. Felker was taken into custody. At the time, he worked as a laboratory associate in the school’s geology department. Prosecutors said the charges against Felker were not tied to his work at the college. Following his arrest, he was “removed from employment” at the school, according to a spokeswoman.
Under sentencing laws, Felker, who has been out on bond since October 2016, could be eligible for release in about two years. He would then be placed on two years of parole and be required to register as a sex offender.
