A former St. Charles High School teacher has been sentenced to 30 months of probation after pleading guilty to a child pornography possession charge, officials said.Gregory Burgener, 65, an Elmhurst resident who taught high school, was sentenced Nov. 16 by DuPage County Judge Brian Telander.

Burgener was charged with 10 counts of felony possession of illicit images in May 2017 after an investigation by Elmhurst police. As part of a deal approved in August, prosecutors dropped nine counts in exchange for his guilty plea on one, court records and prosecutors said.

Burgener was placed on probation for sex offenders and must submit to counseling, if deemed appropriate by the probation department, officials said.

He was also fined more than $2,000 and ordered to have limited internet access. The sentence bars him from contact with minors.
